How it works
How we get you from question to the right lender
Five steps. No credit check to start, no spray of applications, and a person on the phone who knows the market.
- 1
1. Send a short enquiry (about 60 seconds)
How much, what it's for, roughly how the business trades and whether there's property or an asset to offer. Asking doesn't involve a credit check.
- 2
2. A specialist reads it and calls you
Someone who deals with Australian business lenders every week rings to fill in the gaps: trading history, credit, timing and the exit if it's a short-term loan.
- 3
3. We place you in the right part of the market
Bank, non-bank, private, online, invoice, asset or trade finance — we explain which lender type fits and why, in plain English, before anything is lodged.
- 4
4. One lender, approached properly
With your go-ahead we take your file to the lender most likely to approve it. Your details aren't sent to a crowd of lenders, and a credit check only happens at this stage if the lender needs one.
- 5
5. Offer, documents and settlement
You see the offer and total cost in writing. Once you accept, the lender completes its checks and any valuation, then releases funds at settlement after approval.
Why the matching step matters
The Australian lending market is crowded, and lenders read the same business in very different ways. A major bank may decline a builder because two years of tax returns aren't lodged yet, while a non-bank lender accepts an accountant's letter and recent BAS. A private lender may care little about a past default if there's clear property equity and a realistic exit. Getting the lender type right before anything is lodged saves weeks and protects your credit file.
If you'd like to see where you might land before you talk to anyone, the Lender Matcher gives you a first read in under a minute. When you're ready, start your enquiry and answer the questions as accurately as you can — that's what lets us match you properly first time.
Common questions about the process
Does enquiring affect my credit score?
No. The enquiry is a conversation, not an application. A credit check only comes into it if you decide to proceed with a particular lender.
Why don't you send my details to several lenders to compare?
Because formal applications can leave enquiries on your credit file and lenders can see each other's. A tidy single approach to the right lender usually lands a better outcome than a scatter of applications.
How long does the whole process take?
It depends on the lender type and how complete your paperwork is. Banks often take weeks for business credit; lenders that rely on property security or live bank data can sometimes move faster. We'll give you a realistic timeline on the first call rather than a promise we can't keep.
What should I have ready?
Your ABN, photo ID, recent business bank statements, and — if you have them — your latest BAS, tax returns or financial statements. If property is involved, the address and what's owing on it. Each lender type page in our directory lists what that type usually asks for.
Do I pay anything to enquire?
No. Any fees that apply to a loan are set out in the lender's offer before you sign, so you can weigh up the full cost in dollars.
